Beginning to Intermediate Tribal Improv Technique
An ideal workshop for areas with little to no regular tribal improv instruction available, or for dancers who wish to learn more about inFusion Tribal's Gypsy Caravan-based format. This workshop covers basic to intermediate vocabulary and foundation skills used in tribal belly dance, though we will explore various different ideas and styles throughout the workshop. We will cover correct posture and isolations of hip, chest, and arm movements, basic partnering skills, and group improvisation concepts. If we have time, we can cover zills and basic rhythm study as well. This workshop can also include a small introduction to costuming, and/or the evolution of tribal belly dance up to today. Pacing of concepts and volume of vocabulary will be offered based on skill level of the majority of the participants. I pride myself in a "not too fast, not too slow" philosophy for all my workshops.
All skill levels are welcome.
Intermediate Signature inFusion Tribal Moves and Combos
This workshop is geared toward dancers and troupes who have current experience with tribal group improv, and want to expand their vocabulary into more advanced moves and combinations. Dancers who study or perform any improvisational format will find new inspirations and ideas from this workshop! The workshop can be expanded to explore formations and other group dance concepts as well.
Advanced beginner to intermediate improv experience recommended.

Tribal Fusion Skills and Drills
Learn dynamic tribal fusion belly dance skills that will be useful across all styles. Exploring moves outside the traditional improv vocabulary, we will get to move our bodies in new ways during this workshop. Our time will be spent on conditioning and flexibility, and developing muscle memory of basic through intermediate belly dance movement skills, all to funky and fun fusion music. If we have time, we will put together short combos to learn how to connect these components into a cohesive presentation.
This workshop is ideal for all skill levels.
Blending Improv and Choreography Seamlessly
As Tribal bellydance has grown in popularity, more Tribal troupes are faced with the challenge of presenting their dance in larger venues. Increasingly, many troupes have turned to fully choreographed performances for a greater impact when on the stage, leaving their improvisational skills to smaller venues such as restaurants. Why not combine the two and show off your troupe’s hard-earned vocabulary and connecting synergy that is the root of this unique style? In this workshop we will explore how to bring improvisation and choreography to the same stage in any venue, specifically focusing on how to bring more improvisational elements to large stages, where we see it the least. We will discuss how to use improvisational elements throughout a piece while anchoring key musical phrases with choreography and combos, to create a dynamic, impactful performance. Students will learn a short choreography into which they will be able to inject their own unique improvisational style. Sharon will provide detailed handouts covering the topic at hand as well as an outline of the choreography taught. Wear comfortable dance clothes and bring zils.
Some tribal improv experience recommended.
Tribal Fusion Choreography
This workshop is all about the current evolution of tribal fusion, blending the aesthetics of improvisational tribal belly dance with the artistic possibilities of choreography. This workshop begins with an exhilarating conditioning workout, incorporating drills which will apply directly to the choreography that will be taught. We will spend the majority of the workshop learning and refining a short tribal fusion choreography, with variations offered for dancers of different skill levels. We will finish with a relaxing yoga cool down to bring us back to our center. Choreography handouts will be available.
This workshop is ideal for all skill levels.
Spanish Fusion Improv with Skirt-Work
Spanish infused music looks it's very best with Spanish inspired movement! Learn some exciting Spanish styled improv moves and combos to incorporate into your dancing. In this workshop we will cover posture; arms and hands; skirtwork, including ways of getting your skirt in hand and using it to its greatest effect; and how to throw Flamenco-like power and sass into your dance. By the end of the workshop, we will be jamming in tribal chorus while our skirts fly like never before. Wear a full skirt with leggings or pantaloons underneath, hip scarf, and comfortable dance top.
Some improv experience suggested.
NEW WORKSHOP TOPICS!
Tweakin'!
How to make "their move" into "your move" with a few simple tweaks.
In this workshop, we will explore several families of movements, and through them learn how we can take inspiration from the dancers we admire, while developing our own particular aesthetic and style. We will start with a basic vocabulary of moves common across many tribal improv formats, and then "tweak" and adapt them in little ways which make them subtly or significantly unique. The goal is to open our eyes to how we can still honor our teachers, mentors, and all who inspire us in our dance, while speaking with our own voice.
Teacher Sharon Moore is a long time fan and long-distance student of Paulette Rees-Denis and Gypsy Caravan, and is certified in the Gypsy Caravan format. Since completing her certification, she and her troupe, inFusion Tribal Bellydance, have gratefully and humbly taken the vocabulary and format offered by Gypsy Caravan and spent their energies adapting it into their own personal style and aesthetic. Over years of evolution, inFusion Tribal has become recognized as a unique voice in the tribal bellydance community, while still maintaining recognizable roots in the GC style. With an emphasis on joyful energy and mesmerizing fluidity, they are proud to carry on the group improvisational traditions of their foremothers, with their own stylistic "tweaks".
'inFusing' Your Tribal Combos and Transitions
In this workshop, we'll explore creative ways to use your dance space by playing with unique group transitions and combinations that will keep things moving and dynamic! Learn to harness all the energetic give-and-take that can come from a myriad of transitions and staging options your group can call upon in the magic of the moment.
inFusion performs Tribal Fusion, combining group improv and choreography seamlessly, so these concepts will adapt perfectly for choreographed performances as well. We will work in small groups, though the concepts will translate into larger groups and within a chorus format. Recommended for dancers with advanced beginner to intermediate tribal improv experience.
