Class Descriptions
Level 1: Foundations
You'll be dancing from the very first class! This level will get you moving to the tribal groove, with an introduction to the fundamentals of tribal movement and partner work, isolations, strengthening, stretching, costuming, and more. Geared toward the new student, but vital to continuing students for refinement, this class establishes a strong foundation for every dancer. Even if you have taken tribal and/or other bellydance classes before, this class will be instrumental in familiarizing students specifically with this particular style.
For a specific list of vocabulary and concepts explored at this level, please see the Student Resource Center
Level 2: Foundations Plus
Build on your vocabulary and concepts you learned in Level 1, and challenge yourself at this next step in your dance explorations! Emphasis for this class is on growing and developing our dance at a more thoughtful and detailed level. We start every class with some wicked skill drills designed to increase your strength and endurance, as well as get your brain and body moving with greater complexity. From there we will explore a myriad of new moves and group dancing concepts together, which will expand our collective dance language. At this level there is greater focus on chorus work and partnering, and we begin integrating finger cymbals. Students may purchase high quality student zils from Saroyan Mastercrafts
For a specific list of vocabulary and concepts explored at this level, please see the Student Resource Center
Student must have strong grasp of Level 1 Foundations (for brand new students, usually three-sessions to about a year of study in Level 1). If you are not sure, please consult instructor.
Level 3: Combos & Concepts
This class gives you the tools to really push your dance to the next level. Emphasis on intermediate explorations, including inFusion-specific vocabulary and skills, strengthening and flexibility, refined technique, layering, and building on communal tribal movement vocabularies. We will explore more advanced group dynamics, formations, and transitions. Special topics may include floor-work, props, balancing skills, Spanish stylings, Bhangra fusion, solos, and short choreographies.
This class is by instructor permission only.
Level 3: Tribal Fusion/Performance Prep
Tribal Fusion Performance Prep is a required class for members of the student troupe, Nomaditude. Students attending this class must also take Level 3: Combos & Concepts in conjunction.
Performance Prep Class will include strength and conditioning, performance skills study, drilling, and tribal fusion choreography. Other topics will include make-up and costuming, “inspiration study” (video nights), field trips to experience other performers and styles, performance ethics, musicality, solo development, and much more. Dancers should have a dance bag with water bottle, day-planner/calendar, notebook and pen, knee pads, and zills with them every PP class.
