VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!
********************************************
I have always been proud and honored to have such amazing women in my classes--women who are always seeking ways to empower themselves and others in their community, and to be facilitators of greater knowledge, joy and balance in the world at large. Whoever you vote for, whatever causes you support, whatever future of America you envision, please get out and vote.

I for one have already cast my absentee ballot in enthusiastic support of Barack Obama, and share his vision for the future of America.

Ultimately, I believe it is important that we respect one another, even if (maybe even especially if) we do not agree; and however the vote goes tomorrow, it is our job to continue to work together as a global community to move toward a better, more peaceful world. And I know that you all, my dear dance sisters, share in that belief regardless of party or general political leanings.

I encourage every American to participate in the democratic process, make your mark on our global community, and cast your vote tomorrow!!

So here is the latest scoop. As always, this information is mirrored at http://www.mandalatribal.com Hope you're enjoying this last stretch of summer sun!

RENEE TEACHING WEDNESDAYS FALL 2008

This is a case of fortunately/unfortunately!

Fortuntely, I am thrilled to be having the chance to take some evening classes I have wanted to take for years!

Unfortunately, they fall on Wednesday nights, starting October 1st through the end of the year.

Fortunately, Renee has agreed to take over the Wednesday class while I am "away"!!

So Wednesday students, you are going to have a fab new teacher for fall. For those of you yet to get to know Renee, she is my co-director of inFusion Tribal, and has been a dear friend and dance colleague since 1999. You know I wouldn't hand my classes over to just anyone--you will be in fantastic hands! She is also a great yoga teacher, and incorporates some of her yoga training into warm-ups and cool downs--BONUS!

We need a minimum registration for this class to continue, so please make your intention to attend the next session known. You don't need to register right now, but writing to let me know you will be attending is enough to get things rolling!

Oh and speaking of Renee and yoga...

------------------------------------------------------------

RENEE'S YOGA CLASSES THURSDAYS

I have long been a big fan of Renee's yoga teaching. Even before she was formally trained, she had a real knack for breaking things down, a gentle communication style, and a really encouraging manner. She clearly is passionate about it, and joins together challenge and playfulness in her practice. Well, you can only imagine what being in a comprehensive yoga teacher training program has done for her and those who have the pleasure to study with her! She is now teaching regularly in Fremont. Here's some details:

"Renee is now teaching a weekly class at Planet Earth Yoga Center in Fremont! Renee teaches Thursdays from 5:45-7pm. Classes are mixed level (absolute beginners welcome!) and are based on Renee's training in the Anusara style of yoga. Drop-ins are $15, 5-class cards for $65, 10-class cards for $110. Class cards are good for both Renee's classes on Thursday and for Shawna Hartung's class at 5:45pm on Tuesday. And your first class at the studio is FREE!

Planet Earth (www.planetearthyoga.com) is located at 418 N 35th Street in Fremont, just 1/2 block from the Theo Chocolate Factory (whose gift shop and tasting room doesn't close until 6! Yum!)

Hope to see you there!

Hello beautiful dancers!

There are a few things of interest coming up I want y'all to be aware of. I hope to see you guys at some of these upcoming events! As always, if you have any questions or comments, write me anytime.

Much love!

MED FEST - THE BIGGEST
LOCAL BELLYDANCE FESTIVAL!!
**********************************************
Saturday and Sunday, July 19th and 20th
inFusion Tribal w/ Gypsy Fire: Sat, 7:15 - Outdoor Stage
Nomaditude: Sat, 7:56 - Outdoor Stage

Med Fest is coming up this weekend! It's the biggest bellydance festival in Washington, and we get it right in West Seattle. It's all day dancing, shopping, and schmoozing, all out in the open air at Hiawatha Park and Community Center. Best of all? It's FREE!!

Yours truly will be dancing with inFusion Tribal Bellydance, in a unique collaboration with Gypsy Fire Tribal Bellydance of Eugene Oregon, at 7:15pm on Saturday night on the outdoor stage. See how our common language of group improv allows us to perform together. And stick around because my lovely student dancers of Nomaditude - Tribal Bellydance with Attitude will be performing at 7:56pm on the outdoor stage as well.

MED FEST AFTERPARTY
********************************
Saturday, July 19th, 8:30pm
Sharon's House (e-mail for address/directions)

It's an annual tradition, and rain or shine, we will be kickin' it in at my casa post-Med Fest on Saturday night. We fire up the grill and the firepit, and share a drink and some yummy food. Spontaneous dancing has been known to break out! All current and former students are invited, and feel free to bring family or a friend!

We will have a main dish (a make your own chicken and beef fajita bar this year!), which are in foil packets so you can throw on the grill at your leisure for a quick, easy, hot meal whenever you arrive. We also tend to have a good supply of mixers for drinks. Please feel free to bring a side dish, snack, or drink to share. We also have a veggie-only grill if you would like to grill up something non-meat as a main dish for yourself or others.

We will be at the Med Fest until just after 8pm due to the late time of the Nomads' performance, so showing up at 8:30pm or later would be about ideal--we should be back by then. If you show up and no one is there yet, hang out, we will be there soon! And we go until very late, so arrive as late as you like!

If you have any spare camp chairs or similar that you can bring along to contribute to the seating, that would be fantastic.

If you need an address and/or directions, e-mail me. I look forward to seeing you all to celebrate summer and the dance!

******************************************************
SUMMER SCHOOL - INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS
******************************************************
Date TBA - maybe August 2nd? 1-3pm/3-5pm

I am trying to hammer out a date for a couple intensive workshops during the summer break. These would be two separate two-hour workshops, with the focus being on breaking down and drilling all the vocabulary in our Level 1 and Level 2 classes. This would be a chance to clean up technique in your entire Level 1 & 2 repertoire, solidify your dance "menu", and jam with your dance sisters. Handouts of the complete level content would be made available at each workshop. Cost will be $20 per 2-hour workshop pre-registration, $25 at the door.

I will let you know when the dates are picked out --it relies on getting room time to rent. But I am hoping to have it on a Saturday afternoon, possibly August 2nd. Would that work for you? If you are interested in signing up, but a Saturday would NOT work for you, please let me know ASAP. I want to accommodate as many of you as possible. Watch this space for final details as soon as I get them nailed down!

DO YOU CARPOOL?
********************************

I am taking an informal poll of my current student base:
Do you carpool?
If so, how many times per session do you carpool, and with how many other students?

If you do not currently carpool, would you like a ride-share resource of current students to try and hook up with a weekly carpool? Please write me back and let me know!

ZAGHAREET PEOPLE'S CHOICE POLLS OPEN

*****************************************************

Show your support!

The Zaghareet 'Golden Belly Awards' nominations are open. These honors are awarded through nominations and voting by the bellydance community. You can nominate anyone you feel deserves this recognition. And anyone can cast a vote: fans, friends, family, etc. It is a way to support those who you most admire and enjoy as a teacher, performer, vendor, and/or promoter of bellydance. It only takes a moment to send a mail to nominate and support your favorite dancers and community members.

http://zaghareet.com/

Last year, with your votes, I was nominated for Instructor of the Year! I was so honored to be listed among the other instructors I have been so inspired by! I am so grateful for your enthusiasm and encouragement--I am blessed to have students like you all! If you are loving your classes and/or workshops with me, then here is another chance to lend your voice of support. I do so love sharing this dance with my students locally and around the world, and recognition in this category could lead to greater opportunities for me to do just that.

Some of you may not have known of this award, and not have had the opportunity to nominate your favorites for 2008. So even if it isn't me you decide to nominate and vote for, I am pleased to point out this resource to you!

http://zaghareet.com/

Please send your nominations by April 15, 2008 to Zaghareet!, P.O. Box 1809, Elizabeth City, NC 27906 or email zaghareetmagazine@earthlink.net. Be sure to include your name and address and please vote only once in each category. Remember, this is a People's Choice Award, so anyone can be nominated and anyone can win! Nominations will be announced in the May/June issue of Zaghareet!
